ArtFire’s Polymer Clay Smooshers Guild monthly challenge

On Artfire we have groups we call Guilds; they are groups of vendors who make and sell things with a common interest.  One of the guilds I belong to is The Polymer Clay Smooshers Guild http://polymerclaysmooshers.blogspot.com/2011/05/buds-and-blossoms-themed-challenge.html  .  We are a group of shop owners that use polymer clay as our medium.  We have a lot of great events and one thing we do is the monthly challenge.  You can go to our blog and vote on next months theme…Here is a peek at this months theme.

Bead embroidery and polymer clay are the perfect match.

I oive doing bead embroidery is is one of my favorite things to do because I find it really relaxing.  I thought I would do a couple of post to show how I combine polymer clay, seed bead, crystals and gemstones to make fun one of a kind pieces.

This pendant is an example of how making my own cabochon from polymer clay gives me a one of a kind piece.

In this post I’ll show how my “cabochons” look before I start my projects.  I make my clay pieces about 1/4 inch thick and flat on the back.  This makes them easy to get a good grip when I glue them down to the foundation material.

Below is an example of some I made yesterday.  I am going to make a pendant and a pair of earrings for the ones in the 1st. photo.

I am going to list the one in the second photo in my shop http://GingerbellsToo.artfire.com for someone else to use in their projects.  The teardrop shaped one is my favorite.  I use that shape a lot in my designs.

in another post I will show how I start a project using my polymer pieces.
